Congratulations To The North Stars Volleyball Team!!!
Posted by on
This is what can happen when you have determination and perseverance. A team of volleyball players from Dawson City in the Yukon had to raise $25,000 to cover a trip to the nationals and play in the tournament. Raising money in a small town is no easy task, however these awesome girls were determined to do it. They held bake sales, pancake breakfasts, sold popcorn, and just about anything else they could think of. They even managed to get some local companies to sponsor them. In the end, they managed to raise the money they needed and are currently in Toronto competing! Good luck girls and good like to The North Stars!!!

If you're in the Toronto area, check out Mary's Brigadeiro. Owner Mary Oliveira has brought a traditional Brazilian confection to Canada and people are loving it. The Brazilian treat is made from condensed milk, butter, and cocoa powder. The condensed milk is brought to a bubble, then butter and cocoa is added. The mixture is simmered until it thickens and then poured out to be cooled for 24 hours. Once ready it's formed into balls and topped with a variety of toppings. Check out her website for more details! Her store is located at: 1912 Danforth Ave, Toronto
Fighting Back Against The Green Crab!
Posted by on
A fishing couple from the Burin Peninsula in Newfoundland is taking matters into their own hands and fighting back against the Green Crab. Tonia Grandy says the green crab has become a real problem for them. She says the green crab is a very invasive species. Up until recently they've just been destroying the crab they catch, however she found a better solution. After finding a cookbook called "The Green Crab Cookbook" online she realized that if she can't beat the crab, then she's going to eat them. Now her focus will be finding ways to cook up this crab instead of just destroying them. Who knows.. Maybe a restaurant is in their future!
Curried Seal Flipper?!? - A Newfoundland Twist with a Curry Kick
Posted by on
Now this is a unique food combination! The Indian Express out of St. John's, Newfoundland has taken a traditional Newfoundland dish and combined it with his signature curry style. They call it Seal Curry and so far the people are liking it. If you've never tried seal meat before it has a very unique flavour. For many people it's an acquired taste. I have eaten seal many times and do enjoy it from time to time. I definitely would like to give this a try the next time I'm in St. John's.
